Full Mission Bridge Simulator “POLARIS”, produced by Kongsbers AS, class А , according to the DNV was installed at BMTC in 2003.
  15 different ship models, 10 sailing areas are available and different competencies and tasks can be trained and solved in sophisticated training envirionment.

Over 40 years tradition and experience in training and qualification

Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre was established in July 1974 to help the personnel employed in the shipping industry to prepare for Maritime Administration examinations and trough the years has become a complete training source for professional qualification. In 1989 the BMTC was declared as a national maritime training centre by Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and as a Centre of Excellence in its field over the years has constantly strengthen its position as the leading provider of high quality courses for seafarers working on board merchant vessels.

Brief history of the Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre

Practical Training Site

The practical site is situated the industrial area of Varna.
It is specially built for conducting practical training in safety, survival at sea and firefighting drills, and for prep training for seamen, stewards, motormen, boatswains, ableseamen, etc. 
Different types of life safe boats are situated there and are mainly used for the STCW courses, provided by Safety & Security Department. Next to the training site the beautiful barquentine "Kaliakra" is anchored. She is also used for familiarization training, seamanship, sailing skills development,

Navigation and Safety&Security Department

The lecturers and instructors, working at this department develop and carry out all programmes for refreshing and updating training for deck officers through:
- Short-term courses, in accordance with STCW 78' as amended, requirements and IMO model courses: (Oil and Chemical Tanker Familiarization, Gas Tanker Familiarization, Advanced Training in Oil Tanker Operations, Advanced Training in Chemical Tanker Operations,Advanced Training in Gas Tanker Operation;etc. 

Mission Statement

The mission of the Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre is to provide professional training to individuals who wish to improve or upgrade their seamenship skills as well to those who wish to retrain in their job classifications. Through this training, upgrading and retraining the seafarers are well prepared to work safely, capably and effectively on board all types of vessels all over the world.

Safety and Security Department

Safety&Security Department is specialized in providing courses as required by the STCW 78' as amended, which are approved by Bulgarian Maritime Administration. Courses carried out:
*in compliance with Ch.VI of the STCW' 78 as amended, BMA approved courses –  Basic Safety Training, Advance Fire Fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat,different from Fast rescue Boat; Proficiency in Medical First Aid, Medical care onboard; Medical Care refresher, Proficiency in Ship Security, Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boat,etc.

Marine Engineering courses

Marine Engineering courses Unit is specialised in training of all rangs of marine engineers in:
 
 -short-term courses:  prep course for achieving higher maritime competency Chief and Second Engineer - for ME with masters degree;Engine Resource and Team Management;Engine Room Simulator Training; Monitoring and operation of main and auxiliary machinery and associated control systems - new mandatory course, 1000 Voltage course, etc.
-simulator evaluation of professionsl skills for newcomers in different shipping companies

Training and support facilities

        BMTC makes considerable investments in modern equipment and it maintenance - the latest versions of Bridge, Engine Room and Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators of Kongsberg are in operation. All 3 simulators are maintained in accordance with LTSSP and are licensed by DNV. Since March 2011, Bridge Simulator and Engine Room are integrated, which contributes to the better course performance.

 What documents should be presented?
At the beginning of the course you are expected to present at Training &HR Department at least following documents:

Training Administration

The Training and Human Resources Department carries out the entire planning, coordination and course organization; enrollment of individual  rainees and corporate customers; composing, maintenance and keeping of all training documentation and information; MARLINS test administration; handouts and brochures publishing, editing and printing; specialized library for maritime publications maintenance; personnel selection and reqruitment, instructors appointent; national labor code documents creating, distrubution and keeping, etc.

Joining instruction

After booking you will be contacted by the Training&HR Department staff with course date confirmation and additional pre-joining information.
At the beginning of the course, which date and time is shown at the current course schedule, you are required to present the following documents:

First Virtual Ship in Bulgaria is at Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre

At  the end of March 2011  during regular service visit update integration between fullmission simulator Polaris - the only one in Bulgaria of class 'A', according to the standard 2.14 of DNV was completed by the producer Kongsberg AS.
 
Realization of this project gives unlimitted potentialities for complex training of deck and engine officers in compliance with the requirements  laid out in the latest STCW amendments.

MARLINS approved test centre

Since 2003 Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre is  MARLINS Aapproved test centre and MARLINS Test of Spoken English (TOSE) Testing Centre.

BMTC is lisenced training facility

All courses, developed in accordance with STCW' 78, as amended requirements,are approved by Bulgarian Maritime Administration, which monitors the training and after successful course completion ussues the respective certificates.
BMTC courses are developed in compliance with the respective IMO model courses.
In addition, Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre is accredited by National Agency for Vocational Education and Training to provide Vocational Qualification courses for:
-seamen
-able seamen
-motormen
-ship fitters
