Joining instruction
The trainees must be competent in accordance with the requirements of Chapter II, Regulation II/1 or II/2 of the STCW’78 Convention, as amended.
The course is intended for seafarers holding a certificate of competency in accordance with the requirements of Chapter II, Regulation II/1 or II/2 of the STCW’78 Convention, who will serve on ships in polar waters and must be certified in accordance with the requirements of Regulation V/4, paragraph 1 and Section A-V/4, paragraph 1 of the STCW’78 Convention. The course serves to provide knowledge of the design, construction, equipment and furnishings, operation, training, search and rescue and environmental protection related to ships sailing in the inhospitable waters of both poles and to develop skills for an officer in charge of a watch on board ships sailing in ice-covered waters while respecting safety and environmental protection.
